Becoming a mother is a wonderful thing. This is the beginning to a life long journey between you and your new born. There are so many around you telling you what to do and more importantly, what not to do. Let’s start with the basics, skin care! Your new-born’s skin requires special care as it is not fully mature and is different from adult’s skin. It tends to get dry, flaky and sensitive quickly. It needs constant pampering, love and the best products that will keep it safe and smooth.
Our bodies require a bath every day, but an infant does not require a daily bath. Experts recommend that you give your baby a bath three times in a week. Frequent bathing will dry out the baby's skin and cause eczema too. Make sure the water is lukewarm and check if the temperature of your baby is stable. Avoid scented or harsh soaps and be very gentle while you give a bath. Don't too many lotions or creams as they may contain chemicals that will harm your baby's skin.
As much as the Sun is full of vitamin D, its ultraviolet rays are harmful for your young one's skin. Having said that, doctors do not recommend sun screen lotions to be used on babies under six months. But if there is a dire need to take your baby out, please make sure you wrap him/her with airy clothes (cotton), also carry an umbrella along with you just so you can still enjoy the view from the park.
Your little one's skin needs all the pampering in the world. Before you start to massage, make sure your child is in a comfortable position and check if the body temperature is stable. Use only natural oils to massage. Almond, coconut and olive is great for the skin. But ensure they are free from chemicals, scents and parabens. A regular massage will not only keep your baby's skin well moisturized, but it will also strengthen the bones in the process.
A common problem faced by new mothers is the diaper rash. The very mention of it is scary for most mothers. Diaper rash is usually caused by urine or faeces filled diaper. Make sure to check diaper frequently and clean the area with Water Wipes that contains 99.9% water and .1% grapefruit extract. What's more, it is 100% chemical free which makes it the perfect wipe for your little one's skin. They are safe and nature friendly which makes them a favourite for your baby and the environment.
Being a mother is not only exciting, but also equally exhausting. In the process of taking care of your new born, you too require attention, care and proper rest. Don't take in too much stress and stop believing what everyone says. At the end of the day, you know what is best for your baby.
Here' to sleepless nights, endless diaper changes, burp alarms and midnight cries. Here's to motherhood. You're going to be awesome!
